Maddux heads west

40-year-old Greg Maddux has been traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers for Shortstop Cesar Izturis as the trade deadline approached.

Maddux who started his career at Wrigley Field with the Cubs before heading to the Atlanta braves had thought his career would end where it started when he signed a three-year, $24 million deal in 2004.

Maddux said on Monday, "I started with them and I thought I was going to end with them," as he finished his time at the Cubs with a 327-200 win-loss record.

Izturis heads West having made a promising return from an elbow injury that required surgery last Spetember.

The 26-year-old former Gold Glove winner was activated on June 20 and is hitting .252 with seven doubles and 12 RBIs in 32 games this season.
