Islanders trade captain
Soon after signing high-scoring forward Miroslav Satan to a three-year deal, the Islanders traded their captain Michael Peca to the Edmonton Oilers for center Mike York. A two-time NHL defensive forward of the year award winner, Pecca joined New York in 2001.

Pecca led the Islanders to three consecutive postseason appearances as New York snapped a seven year drought of playoff action.
The Islanders signed Satan just three days after he was cut by the Buffalo Sabres. The 30-year-old forward has 194 goals in the NHL and has led the Sabres in scoring in six of his eight years in Buffalo.
